vScription Voice for macOS Quick Start Guide


  1. Open a browser and go to the following URL to download the app 

  1. Double click the vScriptionVoice.dmg file to mount the image 


  1. Drag the vScriptionVoice.app file and drop it on the Applications folder to install. The file is small so it will copy fast 


  1. Launch the app one of two ways; 

  1. Open Spotlight and type in vScription Voice and then press enter. Depending on how your Spotlight is configured, it may not appear in the list right away. If so, go to option 2 

  1. Open Finder and Click the Applications folder. You will see the vScriptionVoice app in there. (If you don’t, you may not have copied the file to the Applications folder in step 2 above.). Double click the app to launch. 
     
     

 

 

  1. You will get a message saying the file was downloaded from the internet and to confirm you want to open it. Click Open

  1. You will get prompted to Enable Accessibility for the app as shown below

  3. Click Open System Settings 


  1. The System Preference window should open to the Security and Privacy settings. Click the Lock Icon to Make Changes. You will be prompted to enter your password or Touch ID  (Note: This is macOS 13 shown here. macOS 10-12 look slightly different)

  2. Click Privacy and Security on the left side pane then scroll the list on the right until you see vScription Voice. Click the box to the left of vScription Voice to allow accessibility

  1. Close the System Preferences Window 

  1. You will also NEED TO CLOSE AND REOPEN THE VSCRIPTION VOICE APP to apply the accessibility to the app 

  1. When you relaunch the app, you should be at the login screen. Login with your credentials. If your login was successful, you should get prompted to allow the app microphone access as shown below; Make sure to click OK 
     

  1. You are now ready to use vScription Voice for macOS 

 

Basic Usage: 

 

  • If you are using a supported HID microphone ie: PowerMic, SpeechMike, you can connect any time and the app will detect and choose it by default. 

  • If not using an HID microphone, the default microphone for the OS will be selected but you can change in the preferences 

  • If not using HID, you can toggle dictation by pressing the configured global hotkey (F2 by default) or by clicking the microphone icon on the app 

  • When you stop recording, as soon as the final text is received, it will be transferred to the selected window at the cursor. If you don’t have a window selected, the text is always transferred to the clipboard so you can paste it after. 


Current App Status Usability Notes: 

 

 

  • PowerMic II / III and SpeechMike Support.

  • Global microphone hotkey for dictation, voice commands and transfer text 

  • Automatic HID detection. You can add and remove PowerMics or SpeechMikes with the app running and it will detect the device and enable right away without having to manually select 

  • Vocabularies and Substitutions should be fully functional 

  • Managing Vocabularies, Substitutions and Shortcuts fully functional 

  • When finished dictation, text should transfer into any focused window 

  • Preferences window is functional  

  • Automatic Software update checking. The app checks every 24 hours for a new version and will prompt to install update. Updates can also be checked manually from the main menu. 

  • Voice Shortcuts are enabled 

  • Scratchpad Enabled for templates or as target
